Abstract

The complement system is an important part of the immune system, which participates in recognition and defense of the body against pathogenic infections and serves as the first line of defense. After being activated by the classical pathway, lectin pathway and alternative pathway, complement selectively recognizes foreign pathogens and damaged self-cells. Afterwards, complement activates down-stream effects so that it plays an important role in the host defense system. A large number of studies have shown that the complement system also plays an important role in a variety of physiological and pathological processes. Study on the role of complement system provides more specific targets for disease treatment. Meanwhile complement also provides references for improving the activity of monoclonal antibodies and other drugs. This paper reviewed the research progress of complement on infection, cancer, liver injury and other diseases.
