Effects of losartan on the structure of left ventricle in spontaneously hypertensive rat

Abstract

Objective:To test the effects of Los on structure of left ventricle in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR).Method: Los 30 mg·kg -1 ·d -1 were given in to six\|week male SHRs by gavage.After 17 weeks treatment,systolic blood pressure (SBP) and left ventricle weight over body weight ration(LVW/BW) were measured.The level of LVH were assessed by means of transmission electron microscope.The plasma renin activity and Ang Ⅱ level were determined by RIA method.Result:(1) SBP in losartan\|treated SHR(SHR los )(109 15±11 37 mmHg)decreased markedly compared with the untreated SHR(SHR)(167 4±13 01 mmHg)( P 0 01).(2)LVW/BW and thickness of left ventricle wall in SHR los were reduced significantly compared with SHR( P 0 01).The myocardial ultrastructure in SHR los was similar to that in WKY.(3)The differnce of plasma renin activities between WKY and SHR was not significant( P 0 05).The plasma renin activities and Ang Ⅱ level in SHR los were increased compared with SHR( P 0 05, P 0 01).Conclusion:During the development of hypertension in SHR,the blood pressure reduced and left ventricular hypertrophy was alleviated after long\|term treatment with Los. [
