Study between Root's Outline and Its Canal Configuration on Mandibular Second Molars

Objective:To explore the regularity and correlation between mandibular second molar root and its canal configuration.Methods:The root canal configuration of 96 mandibular second molar was observed with vitreous method.The morphology of the root canal and its relation to root outline were documented under the operating microscope.Results:There were mainly fused roots and double root on mandibular second molars.42% of molars have fused root.Root canals of mandibular second molar is classified into four types:single canal,double canal,three canal and C shaped canal.The double canals in mesial root of double root molars accounted for 31%.Conclusion:There is relationship between root outline and root canal configuration on mandibular second molar.
