Abstract
The distribution of detrital composition and heavy minerals in deposits are subjected to the provenance,tectonic uplifting,and palaeoenvironment,etc.. In order to clarify the provenance of the Liaoxi sag in Bohaiwan Basin and the respective influence area in the sag,the research thought of the provenance analysis of heavy minerals is as follows. The cluster analysis determines source rock types; the surface texture of grains analysis determines the transportation distance; and the stability factor determines the transportation direction. According to this thought,the whole heavy minerals data of the study area are processed. A comprehensive analysis of the mathematical statistics results shows that the source rock types of study area are mainly magmatic rock and few metamorphic rock,respectively responding to the west Yanshan Mountain primary provenance,and the south rise area secondary provenance and north rise area slight provenance in the Liaoxi low uplift. The west provenance controls the sedimentation of mild slope in the Liaoxi sag. The east provenance has limited influence area which covers the abrupt slope in the Liaoxi low uplift. The north provenance has slight influence on the sedimentation inside the area.
