Abstract
Aim: To study the apolipoprotein E (ApoE) genotypes and allele frequencies and the association between the ApoE genotypes and the serum lipid levels in Chinese population who lived in Henan Methods: The genetic polymorphisms of ApoE in 317 healthy subjects were determined by polymerase chain reaction restriction fragment length polymorohism (PCR RFLP).The serum lipids and apolipoproteins were measured with enzymetic methods and immunologic methods respectively Results: The frequencies of e 2、e 3 and e 4 allele in these subjects were 0 068,0 869 and 0 063 respectively The subjects carrying e 4 allele were associated with increased concentrations of TC and LDL C Ethnical comparisons had shown that e 4 allele was more common among Caucasian and less common among Yellow race Conclusion: ApoE e 4 allele freqeuncy of Yellow race is much less than that of Caucasian;ApoE polymorphism affects the plasma cholesterol level
