Abstract
Objective To study the clinicopathologic characteristics of mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the lung. Methods The clinicopathological and immunohistochemical findings in a case of mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the lung was presented with review of the relevant literatures. Results The patient was female and 19 years old.Tumour was firm, isabeling, with well-defined edges.Histopathologically, intermedius cell population was prominent with cavities filled with mucus.Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the tumour cells were diffusely positive for CK,34βE12,VEGF and negative for S-100.Conclusion Mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the lung is a very rare primary tumour. The morphology of this lung tumour is similar to its counterpart in the salivary gland.Definite diagnosis should be mainly based on pathological examination in assistance with immunohistochemical analysis.Differential diagnosis includes mucinous carcinoma,adenosqua-mous carcinoma and adenoid cystic carcinoma.
