Abstract
Objective To study the bacteriostatic effect of baicalin on Enterococcus faecalis biofilm in vitro. Methods The minimum inhibitory concentration( MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration( MBC) of baicalin against Enterococcus faecalis were detected by doubling dilution. MTT method was used to measure the inhibitory rate. The inhibitory effect of baicalin on Enterococcus faecalis biofilm was observed under Confocal laser scanning microscopy. Results The minimum inhibitory concentrations of baicalin on Enterococcus faecalis was 2 mg / mL and the minimum bactericidal concentration was 4 mg / mL. Observation under Confocal microscope revealed that the ratio of live and dead bacteria in biofilm decreased obviously with the increase of drug concentration,indicating an increase in the inhibitory rate. Conclusion Baicalin has inhibitory effect on Enterococcus faecalis biofilm.
