Abstract
It is a continuum of developing from rhetoric metaphor, cognitive metaphor to grammatical metaphor. From three perspectives - nature of metaphor, mechanism of metaphor and function of metaphor, this paper tries to illustrate the different viewpoints of these three kinds of metaphors. This paper also tries to show that the tendency of studies in metaphor becomes multi- dimensional.
