Radiofrequency ablation combined with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization in treatment of liver cancer

Abstract

Objective To observe the efficacy of radiofrequency ablation(RFA)combined with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE)in the treatment of liver cancer.Methods Thirty-six patients with total 48 liver tumors were treated with CT-guided RFA.The diameter of tumors ranged 1.50—9.50 cm.All patients underwent one or more times of TACE or transcatheter arterial embolization(TAE)before RFA.Preoperative and post-procedural CT or MRI scan were performed in all patients.Results Of 48 tumors,complete necrosis was obtained in 31(64.58%),local necrosis was obtained in 11(22.92%)and recurrence in 6(12.50%).The level of AFP or CEA in the patients decreased in various degrees after traetment.No serious hepatic function abnormality was observed.Conclusion RFA is a safe and effective therapy for primary liver cancer and metastasis.RFA combined with TACE can increase the efficacy of liver cancer.
