Abstract

A census on population size of silver pheasant (Lophura nycthemera rongjiangsis) in Maolan NatureReserve, Guizhou Province was taken by the authors during 2000 to 2001. The results showed that the population size was about 547, with a density of 9.32 ± 3.03/km2. They were 2 - 10 in crowds with an average of 5.17 ± 2. 37 in a crowd. The population data indicate the declining tendency of silver pheasant in research sites. It has been suggested by the authors that the protection of environment, the publicity of relevent laws and regulations, and the scientific experiments should be strengthened.
