On the Fostering of Citizen Consciousness

The word and the citizen society were first put forward in the Western civilization. Along with the policy of reform and opening, the citizen society of China began to take shape. Because of the particular economic, political, and cultural environment, Chinese people generally lack citizen consciousness. It was the market economy that stimulated the forming of the citizen society in China. A citizen society is also the demand of the market economy. Citizens are the main constructors of a harmonious society. To develop citizen consciousness, we should strengthen two points: first, raise the level of individual citizen consciousness, second, construct a just society.
