Abstract

Ecological Footprint is an important indicator to evaluate the Human-environment Coordination and the sustainable use of ecosystem. We calculated the ecological footprint and the ecological carrying capacity of Ningxia between 1986 to 2005 based on the ecological footprint model to show the state of human-environment coordination fluctuations. The results showed that ecological deficits occurred and then continued to increase, which demonstrated that great human-environment conflicts was existed, and Ningxia was in a state of unsustainable development, which posed a grave threat to the stability and sustainable development of the regional ecological economic system.
