Abstract
According to the cultivated land area and social-economic statistical data in Wuhan during 2000—2009,the driving forces of the cultivated land area changes were analyzed by means of principal component analysis. The research indicated that the total area of cultivated land in the time period was divided into three different variations and showed regional differences in spatial position while per captia of cultivated land appeared declining year by year. Population growth, economic development and agricultural scientific and technological progress have been the main driving factors of changes in the amount of cultivated land resources in Wuhan. The research conclusions would be important to ensure the dynamic balance and achieve the sustainable use of cultivated land resources in Wuhan.
