Abstract
Objective:To investigate the expression of Survivin and Caspase-3 in superficial transitional cell carcinoma (TCC) in bladder and their clinical significance. Methods: The expression of Survivin and Caspase-3 was detected by streptavidin-peroxidase immunohistochemical method in the paraffin embedded sections of 47 TCC patients. The specimen were obtained by TUR-BT.All the specimens have been confirmed within the T1 stage by pathological test.10 normal bladder tissues were used as control group. Results: The positive rate of the expression of Survivin in TCC was 68.1%(32/47),while none of 10 cases in control group expressed Survivin. The positive rate of the expression of Caspase-3 in TCC was 38.3%(18/47).The expression of Survivin was related to the histological grades and recurrence but no significant difference was detected in different number of tumors, while the expression of Caspase-3 was significantly suppressed in recurrent cases, but not correlated neither with the histological grades nor numbers of tumors. There was a negative relation between the expression of Survivin and Caspase-3 in TCC. Conclusion: The expression of Survivin in TCC was associated with the histological grades.Caspase-3 expression was suppressed in TCC.Survivin obviously inhibited the apoptosis of TCC cells.High expression of survivin and low expression of Caspase-3 indicate poor prognosis of BTCC.
