Anthropologic studies on tongue moving types of Han in Wenchang of Hainan

Abstract

A sample of 371 middle school students(165 males,206 females)of Han in Wenchang was investigated on 5 tongue moving types,including tongue rolling,tongue folding,tongue twisting,pointed tongue and clover-leaf tongue.The results were as follows:(1)The frequencies of tongue rolling,tongue folding,tongue twisting,pointed tongue and clover-leaf tongue were 47.98%,5.12%,16.17%,60.11% and 2.96%,respectively.No significant sexual difference was found in the frequencies of tongue moving types except pointed tongue.(2)Correlations were little among the 5 tongue moving types.(3)Compared with other ethnic groups,Han in Wenchang had lower frequencies of tongue rolling,tongue twisting,pointed tongue and clover-leaf tongue.(4)The results of cluster analysis showed that the tongue moving types of Han were similar with those of Mulam.
