Repaglinide in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus

Objective To compare the clinical effect of repaglinide and glipizide in treating patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.Methods One-hundred and eighteen cases of type 2 diabetes were randomly divided into 2 groups,treated with repaglinide(60 cases) or glipizide(58 cases)for 12 weeks.Results The lowering blood glucose effect of the two drugs was similar(P0.01).No significant difference exited(P(0.05)).Both drugs can increase the serum level of C-peptide in empty condition and 2h after diet(P(0.05)).There was no significant difference about the level of C-peptide in empty(P0.05),but it existed 2h after diet(P0.05).The effect of the two drugs on body weight index was of significant difference((P)(0.05)).Both drugs had no significant effect on liver and kidney.No significant hypoglycemia reaction had been induced by repaglinide,while 5 cases hypoglycemia induced by glipizide were found.Conclusion With the advantages of convenience,security,and rapid effect,repaglinide is a good blood glulose lowering drug.
