Effects of L-arginine and modified major decoction of bupleurum on endotoxemia in the rat with obstructive jaundice

Objective To observe the effect of L-Arg,modified Major Decoction of Bupleurum and both being used in rats with obstructive jaundice in protecting the liver functions,restraining the lipid peroxidation and alleviating the density of endotoxin in blood.Methods Acute obstructive jaundice models of Wistar rats,which were divided randomly into three time points (namely 7,14,21 days),were established.In each time point,there were 5 groups (n=6 in each group).The density of endotoxin and NO 2 -/NO 3 - were measured.Result Changes of the endotoxin in poral vein at each time points:Seven days after the ligation of biliary ducts,the density of endotoxin in portal vein blood was more remarkably increased in BDL+NS group as compared with that in SO group (P 0.01), while that in BDL+NS group than each of in BDL+L-Arg or BDL+herb (P 0.05). On the 14 days,portal vein blood endotoxin were different between the BDL+L-Arg+herb group and BDL+L-Arg or BDL+herb group,but on the 21st day,the difference is very little.And between BDL+herb group and BDL+L-Arg+herb group in 21days,the different of density of endotoxin of portat vein is also slim (P 0.01). Conclusion This paper indicated,in the initial stage of obstructive jaundice,applying L-Arg and Modified Major Decoction of Bupleurum had a better effect on protecting liver function and improving the body immunity.
