Abstract

The reform of imperial examinations at the first year of Guangde Period during the reign of Emperor Daizong of the Tang Dynasty is a deep reflection of the Anshi Turmoil. The view to emphasize the moral quality of the talented personnel during the imperial examination while resuming the recommendation and election of the township is restoration of connotation of imperial examination system since Taizong of the Tang Dynasty under the new historical circumstances with the negation of the modifications made during the 24th year of the Kaiyuan Period of the Emperor Xuanzong. The failure of the reform is, in essence, resulted in the daily deterioration of the imperial examination system. The gradual triumph of the imperial examination as a pure honorary academic system symbolizes the profound tragedy of the great Tang Dynasty with its rise and fall in accordance with the emergence and death of the imperial examination system.
