A Comparison between the Effect of Palonosetron and Graniston to Prevent Chemotherapy-induced Nausea and Vomiting in Children

Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy and adverse reactions of Palonosetron and Graniston to prevent the chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting in children with malignant tumor.Methods:Eighty children treated with cisplatin(50mg/m~2) were randomly divided into two groups:Palonosetron group(trial group,n =40) and Graniston group(control group,n = 40).The control of acute vomit,delayed vomit and nausea and the related adverse reactions were observed.Results:The control rate of preventing acute chemotherapy induced vomiting was 77.5%and 67.5%in trial group and control group,respectively,while in delayed phase,the rates were 57.5%and 45.0%respectively for trial group and control group(P0.05),In 0 -7 days,the rates were 55.0%and 35.0%respectively in trial group and control group with significant difference(P0.05).The incidence of level 1、level 2 and level 3 nausea in the 23 patients who felt nausea in trial group was 27.5%、22.5%and 7.5%respectively with an average of 0.8.In the control group,29 patients got nausea.The incidence for level 1,2,3 nausea was 32.5%、20.0%and 10.0%respectively with an average of 1.2(P0.05).The side effects included abdominal distension,constipation and headache with mild symptoms. Conclusion:Hydrochloride and Graniston are safe and effective therapeutic options for the treatment for chemotherapy-induced nausea and emesis in children.Hydrochloride has better efficacy in the whole phase.
