Abstract

In the last 10 years,a great breakthrough was made in petroleum exploration for several domains such as residual oil-source sags,middle-deep intervals and natural gas in the eastern South China sea, extricating the exploration from an earlier difficult position that was restricted to a single anticline structure in shallow water and opening up a new situation in which sallow to deep water, various intervals, multiple types of trap, and oil and gas are all prospected. There is still a wider future in petroleum exploration in the eastern South China sea,due to the geological conditions to form giant or major hydrocarbon accumulations.
