Abstract

Objective To study the effect of Momordica grosvenori Swingle(MGS) anti-abnormal lipid metabolism in experimental rats. Methods Fifty SD healthy male rats weighing 180g-220g were fed for a week before randomization divideding into control group(n = 10) and model group,i.e.the high lipid roup(n = 40).The control group was given general fodder, the model group was given general fodder from 8:00 am to 18:00 pm and fed high fat diet from 18:00 pm to 8:00 am of the next day for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, the blood lipid were tested by cut the tails of the rats after 12 hours of fasting, inkluding the serum total cholesterol(TC),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-c),triglyceride(TG) and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-c) in each group. If the the lipid blood lipid were significant higher in the model group than that of the control group,it means that the lipid disorder model of the rats were successfully created, and then, the model group was subdivided into model test group that was given the MGS medecine [(n=20,crude drug 4g/(kg d)] by intra-gastrically and model control group(n=20) was given high fat diet continuously but no medecine for another 4weeks.After another 4 weeks the blood lipid was examed again. Results The TC,LDL-c,TG was significantly higher and HDL-C significantly lower in model group compared to that of the control group(P 0.05),The TC,LDL-c decreased significantly in model test group than that of model control group(P 0.05),while The TG showed decreasing and The HDL-c increasing but not reach the tstatistical significance(P 0.05).Conclusion The Chinese herbs medicine Momordica grosvenori Swingle has the effect of lowering hyperlipidemia and can be used as a medicine for anti-atherosclerosis.
