Actuality and Analysis of Land Desertification in the Tarim River Basin

In this paper,the data of land desertification in the Tarim River Basin are derived using RS and GIS means.The results show that the proportion of desertified land area in the Tarim River Basin is as high as 73.60%,especially the desertification degree of woodlands is the most serious.After analyzing the main factors resulting in land desertification,it is considered that the land desertification in the Tarim River Basin is mainly caused by wind erosion,and the proportion of wind-eroded land area is as high as 73.61% of the total desertified land in the drainage basin.The proportions of seriously desertified land and unused land are high and for 35.41% and 48.45% of the total desertified land area,respectively.Spatially,the desertified land is mainly distributed in the middle and lower reaches of the Tarim River Basin.Therefore,it is suggested to rationally utilize water resources in the Tarim River Basin,continuously implement the project of conveying stream water to the lower reaches of the Tarim River for regenerating the ecology,establish and consummate the monitoring system of land desertification control,and research the scientific measures for controlling land desertification in the Tarim River Basin.
