Abstract

Objective: To examine the expression of p73 protein in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC),and evaluate its clinical significance. Methods: We examined the expression of p73 protein in 85 cases of NSCLC and 32 cases of normal lung tissue with technique of immunohistochemistry. Results: Fifty-six (65.9%) cases of lung cancer and 4((12.5%)) cases of normal lung tissue had positive expression of p73 protein. The difference was significant (P0.01). Twenty-three(54.8%)cases of squamous cell cancer and 33 (76.7%) of adenocarcinoma had positive expression of p73 protein. The difference was evident (P0.05). Positive rates of p73 in cases of Ⅰ,Ⅱ,ⅢA stages were 53.3% (16/30),58.8% (10/17) ,78.9% (30/38).The expression of p73 increased with increasing of TNM (P0.05).Positive rates of p73 in N 1 to N 2 was 74.1% (40/54),and 51.6% (16/31) in N 0. The difference was significant (P0.05). Conclusion: The p73 probably plays an important role during the occurrence, development, and metastasis in lung cancer.
