Abstract

From May to December,2006,the experiment on round pearl production with recipient oysters Pteria penguin which were 2 -4 years old and mantle tissue ( saibo ) donors which were 1 -3 years old was carried out at Fanghua pearl farm,Xuwen,Zhanjiang,Guangdong. The result showed that the survival rate of recipient oysters Pteria penguin was 95.33 % -97.00 % after preoperative weakening process for 15 -40 days. After six-month culture, the nucleus rejection percentage of operated organisms was 63.00 % -71.88 %,and the mortality was 26.17 % -35.00 %,and the pearl formation percentage was 1.95 % -3.33 %. The suitable recipient oysters should be 2 -3 years old and mantle tissue (saibo ) donors should be 1-2 years old for round pearl production.
