Abstract
Objective: To explore the effect of esmolol on the stress response to intubation. Methods: Sixty patients scheduled for elective non-cardiac surgery were randomly divided into two groups (Group E and C), 30 for each. In each group, MAP, HR and CO were recorded at preinduction, before the administration of esmolol or saline (baseline), preintubation, intubation and 1min, 3min, 5min after intubation. Results: After intubation, MAP, HR and CO all increased in two groups, but the average maximum of group C increase is significantly higher than group E (P 0.05). Conclusion: Esmolol can suppress the stress response to intubation.
