A Research on the Affiliation of Magong Dialect

As the entering sound in Magong dialect has disappeared,it no longer belongs to Jianghuai Mandarin.The proportions of relational words classified into the two rank nucleus words in Magong dialect and Sixian dialect are similar,so the two dialects can be proved to have the same origin based on the theory of Rank Curve.The research of 376 ancient entering sounds shows a law that voiceless and semi-voiced entering sounds belong to the first tone;voiced sound belongs to the second tone.Therefore,Magong dialect should be one of the branches in the Middle Areas of China.The evolution of Magong dialect,which has experienced four stages,is the result of internal contact among dialects and the inevitable overall development of any dialect.
