Abstract
In order to reduce the free phenol content of phenolic resin for refractory material,a liquid thermoplastic phenol rensin was synthesized under the conditions as followed: molar ratio of phenol to formaldehyde 1∶ 1.5,step-by-step addition of formaldehyde, zinc acetate as catalyst and dosage 2%,furfuryl alcohol as solvent and reaction temperature 60-85 ℃.The physical and chemical properties of product were tested and the structure was characterized by the infrared spectrum. The results showed that the phenolic resin using this synthesis process had high ortho-substituted structure, the char yield was 45.66% and the free phenol content was 1.87%.The yield could reach 148.8% calculated based on the phenol amount of the raw materials.
