Abstract
The study of discourse markers has been a heated topic of discussion in the past ten years or so in China and the perspectives of inquiry are mainly of pragmatics and sociolinguistics.Exploring the study of discourse markers from the perspective of systemic functional linguistics and taking the points of three metafunctions(ideational,interpersonal and textual in this linguistic theory) as an approach to the study ofdiscourse markerswould bring about more alternative approaches and give important implications for linguistic,pragmatic and functional analyses of discourse markers.
