Abstract
Objective To investigate the distribution and the resistance rate of Shigella in Minhang District of Shanghai, and to provide the scientific evidence for rational application of antibiotics in prevention, control and treatment of dysentery. Methods The stool samples of diarrhea patients from intestinal outpatient monitoring sites were collected to conduct the bacteria isolation, culturing, and systemic serotype identification. At the same time, antibiotic sensitivity test was performed by K-B method. Results One hundred and thirty-two strains of Shigella were cultured in 2007,including 99 strains of S.Flexneri and 33 strains of S.Sonnei.The resistance rates in these strains were 84% to tetracycline,SMZ/TMP,ampicillin,rifampicin,and nalidixic acid, but 8%~0% to gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, and amoxicillin. The resistance rate was significantly different between the two species. Conclusions Most strains of S.flexneri and S.sonnei isolated in the local areas are resistant to many antimicrobial agents except gentamicin, ciprofloxacin, and amoxicillin.More attention should be paid to the surveillance and control of such resistance.
