Result Analysis of Rodent Surveillance in 1986-2001 at Yuqing County,Guizhou Province

Objective To study the rodent species composition and population dynamics for providing scientific basis to rodent control.Methods To capture rodents with trap-night for rodent specimen collection and classification at the same period of each month from 1986-2001 in residential area,rice field and dry farm land.Results There were 8 rodent species in Yuqing county.Rattus norvegicus was the dominant species among domestic rodents,with 83.97 percent;Apodemus agrarius was the dominant species in rice field and dry farm land,with 95.16 percent.The domestic rodents had too peaks,in March and October.For the farm land rodents,there were also two peaks,the one from May to June,the other from October to November.Conclusion Apodemus agrarius and Rattus norvegicus are the target rodents for surveillance and control.March and August are the key periods for rodent control.Chemical control is one of the main rodent control measures.
