Clinical Study on Eradication of Helicobacter pylori Infection by Sequential Therapy

Abstract

Objective To compare the efficacy and safety of a sequential therapy (10-day treatment regimen of Esso America omeprazole,amoxicillin,clarithromycin,and tinidazole) to a standard triple therapy on eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection. Methods Two hundred and fourteen patients with Hp infection were randomly divided treatment group and control group.The patients of treatment group were received a 10-day sequential therapy,while the patients of control group were given a 7-day standard triple therapy.After 4 weeks,all patients were rechecked by the gastroscopy and 14C-Urea breath test.Ulcer healing,Hp eradication,and side effects were observed and compared between the two groups. Results According to intentional treatment analysis and completive follow-up patient analysis,Hp eradication rate and ulcer healing rate of treatment group were better than those of control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P0.05).No serious adverse reactions were observed. Conclusions The sequential treatment regimen has the advantages of higher ulcer healing rate and Hp eradication rate,and lower adverse reactions,which could be used as a first-line therapy for Hp eradiation.
