Abstract

Objective:To analyse the effectiveness of different approaches of decompression of optic canal.Method:From Oct.1989 to Oct.2000,178 patients with traumatic optic canal fracture were admitted for decompression of the optic canal, using different approaches. The results were analysed.Result:The overall efficacy rates of decompression of optic canal via extranasal ethmoidotomy, the anterior and posterior ethmoid approach at orbital margin and transcranial decompression of optic canal were 64.5%,63% and 78% respectively. Conclusion:Transcranial decompression of optic canal has clear operating field, distinct anatomy and adequate decompression of optic canal with high efficiency, which can be applied in conditional hospitals.
