Abstract
[Objective]To observe the change of concentration of C-reaction protein(CRP)and neuron-specific enolase(NSE)in serum and CSF of patients with encephalic infections, and to explore their significance.[Methods]The CRP and NSE in serum and cerebrospinal fluid of 40 patients with intracranial infection and 23 controls were detected with immunoturbidimetry and RIA,including 18 cases with viral encephalitis,14 cases with tuberculous meningitis and 8 cases with purulent meningitis.[Results]No matter in cerebrospinal fluid and serum, the concentrations of CRP in cases with purulent meningitis or tuberculous meningitis did not show significantly difference compared with the controls(P﹤0.05). The contents of NSE in all cases were significantly higher than those of controls(P﹤0.05);The contents of NSE in and decreasing order were as follows:VE﹥TM﹥PM(P﹤0.05).[Conclusion]Simultaneous determination of concentration changes of CRP and NSE is helpful for differential diagnosis of intracranial infection and determination of degree of encephalic damage.
