Study on Antioxidant Activity of Extracts from Pueraria

[Objective] The aim was to study the scavenging effect of extracts from Pueraria on ·OH and.[Method] The effect of water extract from Pueraria,ethanol extract and puerarin on scavenging action to ·OH and was studied by using phenanthroline-Fe2+ oxidation process and pyrogallol autoxidation method.[Result] The extracts from Pueraria had a certain scavenging effect on both ·OH and and the ability of scavenging 2 kinds of free radicals was puerarinPueraria water extractPueraria alcohol extract.When the concn.of aqueous extract and puerarin was 50 mg/L,and that of alcohol extract of 75 mg/L,the elimination rate to ·OH were 40.69%,27.48% and 14.66% resp.The scavenging effect of 3 extracts showed the obvious dose-effect relation after a certain concn.was used.[Conclusion]Pueraria extract had strong antioxidant effect,and could strengthen the organism capability of defending against free radical damage.This study provides the powerful evidence for extracts from Pueraria,specially the puerarin in treating and curing the cardio-cerebrovascular disease.
