Therapeutic value of transurethral resection of prostate for senior and high risk benign prostatic hyperplasia patients

Abstract

[Objective] To evaluate the value of transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) on senior and high risk benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). [Methods] TURP was used to treat 152 cases of senior and high risk BPH. [Results] Mean weight of resected tissue was 67 g, and operative time was 53 minutes. Postoperative maximum urinary flow rate was significantly increased, while international prostatic symptom score (IPSS) was significantly decreased. [Conclusions] TURP can applied to high risk BPH senior to 80 old years with safety and satisfied efficacy.
