Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression of Peroxiredoxin 6(Prx6) proteins in gastric mucosal lesions and to evaluate the effect of Helicobacter pylori(H.pylori) infection on Prx6 expression in development of gastric mucosal lesions. Methods 104 gastroscopic biopsy samples were divided into four groups of different gastric mucosa lesions according to pathologic findings: chronic superficial gastritis, chronic atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia.Expression of Prx6 was examined by PowerVisionTM immunohistochemistry, and H.pylori status was determined by Warthin-Starry stain and rapid urease test. Results The positive rates of Prx6 in biopsy samples with chronic superficial gastritis, chronic atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia tissues were 39.4%(13/33),80.0 %(20/25),93.8%(30/32) and 92.9%(13/14),and the positive overexpression rates of Prx6 were 15.2%(5/33),44.0%(11/25),81.3%(26/32) and 85.7%(12/14) respectively. Both positive rates of Prx6 expression and overexpression in biopsy samples with H.pylori infection were significantly higher than those without H.pylori infection(P0.05).The Prx6 expression in chronic superficial gastritis and chronic atrophic gastritis tissues with positive H.pylori was significantly higher than that with negative H.pylori(P0.05),but it was not observed in intestinal metaplasia and dysplasia tissues. Conclusion Prx6 expression rate in gastric precancerous lesion tissues is increased compared with chronic superficial gastritis.H.pylori infection may also play a role in the early development of gastric precancerous lessions associated with Prx6.
