Abstract
[Purpose] To investigate of the clinical pathological features, recurrence and prognosis of triple-negative breast cancer. [Methods] From July 2000 to July 2006, 486 cases of breast cancer with surgical treatment were analyzed retrospectively. The triple-negative breast cancer is defined as negative expression of estrogen receptor(ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and HER-2, and the other cases were non-triple-negative. The expression of ER, PR and HER-2 were detected by immunohistochemical method. All the cases were followed-up. [Results] seventy-four cases(15.2%) met the criterion of triple-negative breast cancer. Compared with non-triple-negative cases premenopausal patients ratio increased and histological grade higher in triple-negative cases. Fiveyear disease free survival and 5-year overall survival in triple-negative cases were lower than that in non-triple-negative cases (P=0.038,P=0.014). Visceral metastasis happened easier (P=0.024) and survival time from recurrence to death was shorter (P=0.000) and high risk to recurrence and metastases in triple-negative cases. [Conclusion] Patients with triple-negative breast cancer have the special clinicopathological features with high risk to recurrence , metastases and poor prognosis.
