Abstract

【Objective】 To investigate the relationship between uric acid concentration and carotid atherosclerosis in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM).【Method】 85 cases of the senile diabetes mellitus with or without carotid atherosclerosis were selected.Uric acid and other T2DM risk factors, including gender,age,T2DM duration,body-mass index(BMI),free blood glucose(FBG),fasting insulin(FINS),systolic blood pressure(SBP),diastolic blood pressure(DBP),serum cholesterol(TC) and triglyceride(TG)were analyzed.【Result】 In logistic regression analysis of carotid atherosclerosis, the level of uric acid in the carotid atherosclerosis group was higher than that in the non-carotid atherosclerosis group, there was significant difference(P 0.05).Uric acid, together with age,T2DM duration,SBP,Ln(HOMA-IR) and Ln ISI was associated with carotid atherosclerosis in elderly patients with T2DM.【Conclusion】 Uric acid is an independent factor in senile diabetes mellitus with carotid atherosclerosis.
