Abstract
Objective To study the expressions of pituitary tumor-transforming gene (PTTG) and basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF) protein and their significance in pituitary adenomas. Methods Expressions of PTTG and bFGF were detected by immunohis-tological polymer detection system (PV-9000) in 38 cases of invasive pituitary adenomas, 17 cases of non-invasive pituitary adenomas and 6 cases of normal pituitaries. The microvessels density (MVD) in the pituitary adenomas was evaluated by immunohistochemical stainings with antidody of CD34. Results The rate of PTTG expression was significantly higher in the invasive pituitary adenomas than that in the non-invasive pituitary adenomas and normal pituitaries (P0.05). The Expression of bFGF and MVD were positively correlated with the expression of PTTG in the invasive pituitary adenomas (P0.01). Conclusions PTTG may play important roles in the invasiveness of the pituitary adenomas by activating expression of bFGF and promoting angiogenesis.
