The Clinical Effects of Hemoperfusion Combined with Hemodialysis on Pruritus in the Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients

Abstract

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effect of hemoperfusion(HP) combined with hemodialysis(HD) on pruritus in the maintenance hemodialysis patients(MHD).Methods Forty-eight MHD with pruritus were randomly divided into two groups with 24 cases each,the Observation group was treated with HP/HD for 4 weeks while the control group was treated with HD.The changes of pruritus score and serum parathyroid hormone(PTH)in two groups were recorded before and after treatment.Results The total remission rate in the observation group was 87.5%,higher than the control group(8.33%)(P0.01).The levels of pruritus score and PTH,declined significantly(P0.01) compared with those before treatment in Observation group,and these changes were also remarkably different compared with those in control group(P0.01).Conclusion The combined application of hemoperfusion and hemodialysis can effectively eliminate uremic and relief symptoms of pruritus.
