Fanghui's Viewpoints on the Tang Poetry Seen from Yingkui lvsui

Yingkui lvsui,written by Fanghui,containing poems,poetic patterns,comment on poetry,has been an influential book on poetics.There have been different opinions on Fanghui's viewpoints on poetics.The main schools of thoughts maintain that Yingkui lvsui reflects the theory of Jiangxi school,from which are derived some critical comments.However,Fanghui's view on poetics is not biased,but balanced,featuring an attempt to seek equilibrium and innovative changes for the new development of poetry.By balanced we mean he did try to promote Song poetry while advocating Tang poetry as a high standard,that is,he emphasized both prioritizing patterns and matured tactfulness with the latter enhancing the former,striving for a proper balance between creation methods and free creation,between techniques and natural formation as the highest criteria.Only when we become aware of Fanghui's concerns for both ends can we begin to appreciate a full Fanghui.The existing research in this area either focuses on one aspect or the other,thus causing deviation from the right path.What is ignored is more often than not manifested in his elaboration on Tang poetry.
