Abstract

Isaiah Berlin is firstly a historian of ideas.Positive liberty and negative liberty in Berlin's Two Concepts of Liberty is mainly used to summarize and investigate the understanding of liberty by two different schools of thinkers in the history of ideas,rather than to directly narrate his own understanding of liberty.To Berlin,the two terms of negative liberty and positive liberty represent two different understandings of liberty instead of meaning two liberties or two types of liberty.To Berlin,negative liberty and positive liberty are just two sides of one liberty.
