Effeet comparision of Venlafaxine and Amitriptyline in the treatment of depression

Objective To investigate the efficacy and adverse effects of Venlafaxine and Amitriptyline in the treatment of depression.Method Total 64 patients with depression were randomly divided into Venlafaxine group and Amitripty-line group for a double-blind investigation.The total treatment time was 6 weeks.Hamiltom Depression Scale(HAMD) was used for evaluating the therapeutic effect,while Treatment Emergent Symptom Scale(TESS) for side effects.Results HAMD scores of Venlafaxine group was more reducing than Amitriptyline group at the second and fourth weekend,and had significant difference between the two groups.The first took effects were more quickly than the last,but the final therapeutic efficacy of Venlafaxine was similar to that of Amitriptyline.The adverse effects of Venlafaxine were less and lighter.Conclusion Venlafaxine is effective and safe in the treatment of depression.And the effective time is short.It suggests that Venlafaxine might be one of the first-line anti-depressants.
