Abstract

Soil and water conservation(SWC) strategy is one of the most important issues for soil erosion control.Designing strategies and soil erosion reduction effect(SERE) of SWC measures are modeled for farming-type small watershed of Changzhi project. The results show that:①the controlling area of small watershed depends mainly on the area of soil erosion, which takes up 90.4% of the latter. The other specific controlling measures mainly depend on the controlling area, taking up 8%-31.9% of the latter. But enclosed area was mainly affected by low-quality forest area and wild land;② SERE of controlling measures which are terracing, building soil and water conservation forest(BWSCF),building cash forest, closing hillside for erosion control, conservation tillage reached 2430 t/km2·a,4275 t/km2·a,3994 t/km2·a,3614 t/km2·a,2191 t/km2·a respectively, and sediment reduction ratio reached 8.4%,30.3%,24.8%,22.7%,13.8% respectively;②The BWSCF ratio should be higher than 24% for the study watershed.
