Clinical significance of sentinel lymph node biopsy in breast cancer

Abstract

Objective To explore the clinical value of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in breast cancer.Methods By using methylene blue staining method,SLNB was performed on 58 patients with breast cancer,followed by routine surgical operation for breast cancer.Results The sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) were found in 54 (93.1%) of 58 patients with the accuracy being 96.3%.The false-negative rate was 5.71% and false-positive rate 0.The studying curve,the patients' age and the tumor position were related with the identification of SLN at operation (P0.05),but the tumor size and the pathologic classification were not associated with intraoperative detective rate of the SLN (P 0.05). Conclusion SLNB could accurately predict the metastasis of ALN in the patients with breast cancer.
