Abstract

With the urbanization of developed countries has been completed, the emphasis has shifted to developing countries. And the population in the capitals of some developing countries is increasing very rapidly. This paper analyzes the spatial distribution and restructuring of population in Beijing,China with the census in 2000 and 2010.It is found that the total population was increasing very rapidly, and the population in the core districts increased too, though that in the districts of Xicheng and Chongwen decreased, the population in all other districts increased rapidly. So the total population is increasingly concentrated in urban functions extended areas and new districts of urban development. The distribution of population remained uneven and the population density was decreasing from the city to the suburbs too.It seemed to be a new stage for the urbanization with 100% urbanization in the downtown and no center decline, and accelerated development of suburbanization in near suburbs and urbanization in far suburbs. The population growth is mainly due to the increase of temporary migrants, and the local residents and temporary migrants are concentrated in the urban functions extended area and new districts of urban development. And the suggestions of urban and regional planning and policy implications are discussed finally.
