Technical Efficiency and the Regional Differences of Tourism Industry in China:2001～2007

Technical efficiency is introduced into China's tourism industry efficiency analysis,and an empirical analysis is made on the technical efficiency and the regional differences of tourism industry in China from 2001 to 2007 by using DEA model.The results show that during the period,the technical efficiency of China's tourism industry shows approximately a U-type changes,and there is an upward trend in recent years,but the overall level is low with 0.571 on average nationally.The technical efficiency is significantly different in different regions.The efficiency of eastern region is higher than the western region,and the western region is higher than the central region.The coefficient of variation of the technical efficiency shows a reversed U-type changes approximately,and the regional differences show a narrowing tendency in recent years.Therefore,the authors point out some measures to increase the technical efficiency of China's tourism industry,such as changing the growth pattern of industries,integrating industrial chain,establishing and improving the innovation system of industries.
