Effect of Metformin on Hyperinsulinemia in Essential Hypertension Patients

Objective To observe the effect of metformin on hyperinsulinemia of essential hypertension(EH) patients. Z]Methods Twenty three EH patients treated by antithypertensive agents and methformin were compared with a group of 18 EH patients by antihypertensive agents alone. Two groups were matched in the respect of age,sex distribution and bodymass index. The changes of blood insulin before and after treatment in two group were studied. Results After treatment,fast and 2 hour postcarbohydrate load blood insulin in the metformin group all decreased significantly than that of antihypertensive group(P0.05,P002 respctively). Conclusion Metformin may lower EH hyperinsulinemia and improve EH insulin resistance.
