Abstract

As one of the most important theories on ancient literature in the late 20th century,studies on Chinese Lyric Tradition by overseas scholars not only strove to construct in a comparative perspective,but also attempted to rewrite literary history to represent lyrical tradition.Among them,Gao Yougong's theory of aesthetics has made its full impact on his Princeton's followers'(Sun Kangyu and Lin Shunfu) writing of literary history in the perspective of lyrical tradition.Their studies have provided special and profound interpretation as to the evolvement of and relationship among genres such as pentsyllabic verse,regulated verse and song lyric which represent a lyrical literary legend from the late Han Dynasty to the late Song Dynasty.
