Abstract
Gu Yanwu was well-known as an outstanding master for textual research. Many scholars believe that Gu laid emphasis on textual research but paid no attention to argumentation;and if there was any,it was based on neo-Confucianism of Cheng Yi and Zhu Xi. As a matter a fact, that is a misunderstanding of Gu's thought. Gu's idealist philosophy was based on Confucian classics and stood for n learning for the purpose of utilization. So his philosophcal ideas were entirely different from those of neo-Confucian school of the Song and Ming dynasties.
